OUR DOCTORS

Dr. Clarissa Prieto-Ayala grew up in a small town outside of Houston and graduated from Splendora High School in 2006. She attended Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2010. In 2012, Dr. Ayala moved to Pomona, California and spent the next four years at Western University of Health Sciences and graduated with a Doctorate degree in Optometry in 2016.

Dr. Ayala spent her last year of Optometry school rotating through Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas. She spent three months each at Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital Indian Health Reservation, Sheppard Air Force Base, Ernest Childers VA Clinic and Doris Miller VA Clinic.

Dr. Ayala received the VSP/AOF Practice Excellence Award, COLA Terry Yoneda Excellence Optics Award and she was selected for the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and Who’s Who Among Students Award. Dr. Ayala is a current member of the Texas Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and the American Diabetes Association.

While studying at Western, she participated in two mission trips with the California Lions Club Friends in Sight. The first trip took place in 2014 in Tecate, Mexico and they attended to 591 patients providing them with a comprehensive eye exam and a pair of glasses. In 2015 they traveled to Baja California, Mexico and gave care to 956 patients. Dr. Ayala has also participated with the See to Succeed kids program in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Ayala spent her first two years working as a Civilian Optometrist at the Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. She had the pleasure of working in the 82d Medical Group alongside civilian and active duty personnel. Dr. Ayala provided routine eye exams, corneal refractive surgery preoperative and postoperative exams, and physical eye exams to candidates for the flight program. Western University of Health Sciences provided Sheppard Air Force base with fourth year student externs and Dr. Ayala ran the program as their Preceptor. Dr. Ayala really enjoyed her time in Wichita Falls providing the best care to our active duty members before deciding the move back to her hometown to be with family. Dr. Ayala currently works with and provides eye care needs to our National Guard members in Texas.
